Free Speech
Posts tagged Free Speech defend open expression, including speech you find offensive. My view is that the answer to bad ideas is better ideas argued in the open, not suppression, and that a consistent standard has to protect speech you dislike as much as speech you favor.
This is not a comfortable position to hold consistently, because it means defending the right of people to say things you find wrong. But a principle that only protects speech you agree with is not a principle at all.
These posts argue for that consistent standard and against the temptation to silence what offends us.
