Posts tagged Military cover war, military history, and the human cost of conflict. My interest started with a grandfather’s prisoner-of-war story and grew into a lasting engagement with how nations fight and what it does to the people caught in it.

I write about the military the way I try to write about everything: examining the evidence, holding the full picture, and resisting the urge to simplify. War produces both heroism and atrocity, often in the same campaign, and an honest accounting has to hold both.

These posts look at military history and its moral questions without flinching from the uncomfortable parts.
