Media Criticism
Posts tagged Media Criticism examine how the news and media work and what they do to the people who consume them. My argument is that the structure of modern news rewards alarm, anger, and oversimplification, and that the result is a population that is anxious, divided, and worse informed than it believes.
I spent years consuming the news compulsively before stepping back and looking hard at what it was doing to me. These posts come out of that reckoning. They are critical of the system rather than of individual journalists, and they offer a way to stay informed without letting the news run your emotional life.
These are the posts where I take apart the machinery of media and ask who it actually serves.
