Listening

Posts tagged Listening are about one of the most underrated skills there is: actually hearing other people instead of waiting for your turn to talk. A recurring theme in my writing is that you change minds by understanding first, not by arguing harder.

Most disagreement fails because no one is listening. People talk past each other, score points, and walk away more entrenched than before. The alternative is slower and harder: ask why, listen until you genuinely understand, and only then explain your own view.

These posts make the case for listening as the foundation of every worthwhile conversation, especially the difficult ones.
