Did you know your standard, garden variety honey bee is not native to the Americas? They came over with the Europeans after Columbus.

Did you know earthworms are not native to the Americas either? They also came over with the Europeans and caused ecological disaster on the continent. Earthworms change the way leaves and such are decomposed and thus change the nature of the land.

Did you know tomatoes are not native to Europe?They were transported by the Europeans after Columbus back to Europe. So when you think of Italians and tomato cause, you are talking about a relatively recent tradition. The Romans would not have recognized it because it didn’t exist at the time.

Corn, peanuts, tomatoes, squash, pineapples and potatoes (both white and sweet) are not native to Europe and were introduced after 1492.

Cows, pigs, goats, chickens, donkeys, cats and sheep did not exist in the Americas before 1492. Rabbit and rats also did not exist in the Americas before Columbus.

The Europeans gave the Americas smallpox, malaria, yellow fever, measles, cholera, typhoid, and bubonic plague. The Americas gave Europe tuberculosis, dysentery and syphilis.
